Parisian architect Dominique Perrault‘s latest project, the Meliá Vienna hotel, is set to open in the city’s new landmark skyscraper, the Donau-City (DC) Tower, in just a few weeks.
The 253-room hotel will be Meliá Hotels International’s first property in Austria, taking up 17 of the building’s 58 floors.
The DC Tower, designed by Perrault, is Austria’s tallest skyscraper at 250 meters. Situated on the banks of the New Danube River, its exterior offers a glazed, minimalistic monolith resembling a geometric waterfall.
The theme is continued inside the hotel, with decorative references to the waterfall motif in the form of geometric shapes used on bedheads, bathroom walls, and stone tiles. The lobby features a floating spiral staircase connecting three floors, between The Flow restaurant and a ballroom on the first floor.
The bedrooms include an expansive 200 square meter Presidential Suite on the 14th floor, accessible via a private lift, offering 180-degree panoramic views of Vienna, a home cinema system and an infinity bathtub and double rain shower. All rooms include floor-to-ceiling windows, media hub HD stations, Nespresso coffee machines and rain showers.
The hotel will feature a restaurant, 57, headed by chef Siegfried Kröpfl, which will offer Mediterranean and international food, to a backdrop of 360-degree panoramas of Vienna.
“This spectacular landmark in Vienna will play a key role when it comes to our dynamic expansion and further increasing our degree of recognition on the German-speaking market,” explained Executive Vice President Hotels André Gerondeau, who is responsible for all 350 hotels of Meliá group.
Dominique Perrault is best known for his design of the French National Library and the Olympic Tennis Center in Madrid. He was awarded the prestigious Mies van de Rohe architectural prize in 1997.
