Nineteen-year-old winger Chan Vathanaka tops the poll on who should be in the team to take on the Philippines national team in a charity friendly
The friendly will likely feature an Asean All-Stars side taking on the Azkals in Bacolod, Philippines, although a date for the match has yet to be confirmed.
Following the proposal, Goal Singapore had picked out 11 candidates from each AFF member that we felt merited inclusion if the proposed friendly materialises.
From the poll, 19-year-old Cambodian starlet Chan Vathanaka registered a majority of the votes, with almost three-quarters of readers voting for the diminutive midfielder (74.4%).
Brunei’s forward Adi Said comes in a distant second with 8.8% of the votes, while Singapore central defender and Goal Singapore Football Awards Player of the Year Safuwan Baharudin lies third with 7.9% of readers voting for him.
Malaysia’s midfield playmaker Irfan Fazail comes in fourth after garnering 2.3% of the votes, followed by Philippines’ Phil Younghusband who had 1.6%.
Indonesia’s Andik Vermanysah (1.5%), Thailand’s Kawin Thamsatchanan (1.3%), Myanmar’s Kyi Lin (1.2%), Vietnam’s Le Cong Vinh (0.7%), Laos’ Soukaphone Vongchiengkham (0.2%) and Timor Leste’s Adelino Trindade (0.2%) make up the other candidates who were nominated by Goal.
Similar to how the AFF helped to cover the cost of construction for four elementary schools when Typhoon Bopha hit Philippines in 2012, this charity initiative is an attempt to aid the country.
Singapore also did its part when it hosted an Under-23 friendly four weeks ago as part of the Young Lions’ warm-up preparations for the SEA Games, which saw them run out 6-0 victors.
