Nova Star Cruises Ltd. announced that Julie Walters, a tourism professional in the province of Nova Scotia, has joined the company as director, Nova Star Discovery Program. The Nova Star Discovery program will provide travelers with turnkey vacation experiences that bundle passage on Nova Star with select tourism offerings throughout Atlantic Canada and New England, according to a company press release.
“Julie is another accomplished tourism expert we’re adding to our team,” said Owen John, vice president, sales and marketing, Nova Star Cruises. “Her expertise and relationships in the region’s tourism industry will ensure that our guests have access to vacation experiences in both regions that are unique and affordable.”
Walters will be based in Yarmouth, Nova Scotia, and serve as a key member of the marketing team, playing an integral role in developing marketing strategies and long-term objectives, the press release stated. As the Nova Star Discovery program director, she will manage the product offerings and drive the timely and successful launch of new tourism products and packages into the marketplace in support of the company’s marketing plan.
The cruise ferry service will provide daily round trips within 24 hours, from May 1 to Nov. 2 starting next year, officials announced. Nova Star Cruises estimates that more than 100,000 passengers will board the cruise ferry, Nova Star, in the first year of operation. The new ship will boast a casino and theater area, the operator reported. A system to begin taking reservations is expected to launch in late January.
The Province of Nova Scotia has signed an agreement with STM Quest Inc., a joint venture of Quest Navigation Inc. of Maine and ST Marine Ltd. of Singapore, to restore the Yarmouth-Portland ferry service. The Cat, which operated from 2006 to 2009, was the last ferry service between the two regions.
