3-day BITF begins in city tomorrow

A 3-day long 4th Bangladesh International Tourism Fair (BITF) will begin in the city on Thursday, reports UNB.


Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister Rashed Khan Menon will formally inaugurate the fair at Bangabandhu International Conference Centre in the afternoon.


FBCCI president Kazi Akram Uddin Ahmed will attend the inaugural function as the special guest.


Rezaul Ekram, executive director of Bangladesh Foundation for Tourism Development (BFTD), said this at a press conference held at Hotel Holiday Villa at Gulshan-1 in the city on Tuesday.


BFTD and Association of Travel Agents of Bangladesh (ATAB) in collaboration with Civil Aviation Tourism Ministry, Bangladesh Tourism Board, Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI), Bangladesh Inbound Tour Operators Association and Bangladesh International Hotel Association are organising the event.


Briefing reporters, he said 140 stalls will be set up at the BITF venue where several countries, including India, Nepal, Bhutan, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Cambodia, Indonesia and Myanmar will participate alongside the host country Bangladesh.


The participating organisations will include travel agents, tour operators, hotels and resorts, card sellers, hospitals, institutions, National tourism organisations (NTOs), airlines, financial institutions, online sellers and other tourism service providers.


This is the first time Cambodia is going to take part in the show.


A seminar on ‘Sub-regional tourism circuit, linking south and south Asia’ will also be organised in the fair on Thursday morning where representatives from Bhutan, Malaysia, Myanmar, Cambodia and Indian states of Meghalaya, Asam and Tripura will speak on the subject.


Entry fee has been fixed at Tk 20.


The fair will remain open for visitors from 10am to 8pm every day.


HM Hakim Ali, president of Bangladesh Foundation for Tourism Development, MA Motin, chairman of Hotel Holiday Villa, and Suman Talukder, senior vice president of Inbound Tour Operator Association, also spoke at the press briefing.


BFTD as a nonprofit organisation dedicated to tourism development in Bangladesh successfully organised such events earlier in addition to tourism fairs, various tour and travel-related programmes like Road Show at Kolkata, London Tourism Expo, photo exhibition, free guiding courses to drivers, seminars and workshops.


During the BITF-2014, Biman as official airline will offer special discounts on tickets for all incoming participants.


Airlines like Malindo, Novo Air, Regent Air and United Air will also offer special fare for the event.


Attractive prizes along with air tickets will be awarded at raffle draw, seminar and cultural programmes.
