Taiwanese band Mayday will bring their high-energy music to the 2014 Formula 1 Singapore Grand Prix in September, event organizers said Tuesday.
Mayday’s performance at the Sept. 19-21 Grand Prix weekend will be the first time the annual event has featured a Mandarin-language band since it began seven years ago, said the Singapore Tourism Board, which is eyeing the influx of tourists as a chance to build up a “Grand Prix Season.”
“Mayday enjoys great popularity in Asia and could add more colors to the event,” said Kwan Su Min, the tourism board’s director for the eastern China region.
She explained that Grand Prix Season would include a huge tourism package that ranges from world-class sports events to entertainment and the country’s well known glamorous night life.
Mayday will perform on Sept 19 at the event’s main stage. Other performers include the Pet Shop Boys, Robbie Williams, Ziggy Marley and John Legend, the tourism board said.
The event, which will take place on the Marina Bay Street Circuit, is the only night race in the F1 championship.
