UFC Fight Night 33 Loses Gagnon vs. Caceres Due To Visa Issues

Canadian prospect Mitch Gagnon has been forced to withdraw from his fight with Alex Caceres due to visa issues, forcing the UFC to remove the bantamweight bout from this weeks Fight Night card. Officials announced last night that the fight will be moved to a future event.

The UFC’s 33rd Fight Night event will take place at the Brisbane Entertainment Centre in Queensland, Australia. The card will be headlined by top ranked heavyweight’s Mark Hunt and Antonio ‘Big Foot’ Silva, the prelims will be broadcast on Fox Sports 2 and the main event will follow on Fox Sports 1.

Gagnon was looking to stretch his current win streak to 3-0 following two first round submission wins over Walel Watson at UFC 152 and Dustin Kimura at UFC 165. His most recent win over Kimura, in September, earned him a ‘Submission of the Night’ bonus. Gagnon is now 2-1 in his UFC career following his debut in the promotion, where he lost by submission to Bryan Caraway in a bout which earned the pair ‘Fight of the Night’.

His Opponent, Caceres, was hoping to go unbeaten five fights in a row. In his last outing, also at UFC 165, Caceres took home a split decision win over Roland Delorme. Caceres is now 4-1(1NC) since dropping to the bantamweight division. His no contest was originally a split decision win over Kyung Ho Kang but that was over turned after Caceres tested positive for Marijuana after the fight. Caceres only loss at 135lbs came by split decision to Edwin Figueroa, in that fight Caceres was controversially docked two points for two low blows.

The bout, which was on the main card, will most likely be replaced by a preliminary fight but the UFC could opt to have a five fight main card instead. The date or card for Gagnon/Caceres’ rescheduled fight has yet to be announced. They could very well find themselves fighting in the UFC’s debut to Singapore, on it’s Fight 34 card which has been struggling with injuries recently.
