The bodies of two men have been found in the wreckage of a gyrocopter north-east of Melbourne.

The gyrocopter took off with the two men on board from a conference centre on the Melba Highway at Dixon’s Creek late yesterday afternoon.

It was scheduled to return after 15 minutes, but the alarm was raised when there was still no sign of the aircraft two hours later.

Police say the wreckage was found just north of Brock Spur, about 10 kilometres from where the gyrocopter took off.

Search and rescue police spent the night scouring the rugged Kinglake National Park and resumed the search with the help of SES volunteers early this morning, when the bodies of the men were found.

It is believed one of the men was a tourist from Singapore.

Emergency services are at the scene and the Coroner has been notified.
