Sublime passes, energetic bursts into the box, and an eye for goal. That is the package Arsenal midfield maestro Aaron Ramsey currently brings to the squad as the Gunners look to finally end a eight-year run of being without a trophy.
The midfielder has come a long way since his injury in 2010 when he was sidelined for nine months after a clash with Ryan Shawcross, following which he struggled to find form and was often singled out by fans for criticism.
But Ramsey has fired the most appropriate riposte to his critics this season, putting in superb display week in and week out.
After his two-goal salvo for Arsenal against Cardiff City over the weekends, the 22-year-old has risen to be Arsenal’s top scorer with 13 in the bag. That is a remarkable tally from 21 games, especially considering that Ramsey had netted 11 times in 150 games before this campaign.
As such, 59.2% of Goal Singapore readers feel that Ramsey is the best midfielder in the league at the moment, ahead of compatriots like Michael Carrick, Frank Lampard and Steven Gerrard.
However, there was still 40.8% of readers who remained unconvinced that the Welshman was the best in his position. Instead, these readers feel that there were better options in the league, and whose contributions were perhaps understated as they have not scored as many goals as Ramsey has.
