MANILA – The Philippines will hold air talks with France and Singapore in the first quarter of next year, according to the Civil Aeronautics Board (CAB).
Carmelo Arcilla, CAB executive director, said discussions with France are set on January, while that for Singapore on February.
Air talks with France will come after the successful conclusion of an air service agreement (ASA) with Italy last September.
The Philippines and Italy agreed to 14 flights per week, more than the one flight stipulated in the agreement signed in 1969.
The Philippines’ bid to negotiate air agreement with European countries comes on the heels of Manila’s removal from the EU blacklist of nations with aviation safety concerns.
Besides Italy, the Philippine air panel concluded air negotiations with Macau, Brazil, Israel and Japan.
The Aquino administration is pursuing air talks as part of its open skies policy. Under Executive Order No. 29, airports other than the Ninoy Aquino International Airport would be opened to more foreign traffic.
The government aims to generate six million tourists, three million jobs and $4.6 billion in tourism revenues by 2016, allowing the sector to contribute 6.35 percent to gross domestic product.
