Big news for Asia’s meetings community: The Global Business Travel Association is launching a partnership with Messe Berlin (Singapore), the organizer of ITB Asia.

As part of the partnership, GBTA will hold a Business Travel Day at ITB Asia 2014, presenting educational sessions on business travel management. This will include the presentation of the latest Business Travel Index Report with new key insights into corporate travel trends for Brazil, Russia, India and China (BRIC).

ITB Asia is an annual three-day B2B trade show and convention (currently in its seventh year in Singapore) that will take place at the Marina Bay Sands from October 29-31 this year. It is organized by Messe Berlin (Singapore) Pte Ltd and supported by the Singapore Exhibition Convention Bureau. Exhibitors represent CVBs from around the world, and are slated to include the Singapore Tourism Board, the Tourism Authority of Thailand, the Federal Agency for Tourism of the Russian Federation, the Korean National Tourism Organization, the Qatar Tourism Authority, Visit Finland and the Greek National Tourism Organization.

“Over the past decade, the Asia Pacific region has become the largest business travel region in the world,” Nino Gruettke, executive director of ITB Asia, said in a statement. “This mutually beneficial partnership with GBTA will expose our delegates to the latest industry trends and opportunities and will also help us leverage the extensive networks of business, government and travel trade contacts to attract even more experts and key industry players.”

Welf Ebeling, GBTA vice president, operations, Asia, said that as GBTA has worked in tandem with ITB Asia “for many years” and has watched the show “evolve into a must-attend event for the Asian travel trade industry.” The partnership will leverage the global platform through multiple co-located events and initiatives during the trade show.

The inaugural Business Travel Day will include new insights to support business travel professionals looking to expand in the Asian travel market. Last year, ITB Asia attracted close to 9,100 attendees, representing over 110 countries. These numbers are expected to grow again this year.
