THE Singapore International Water Week (SIWW), World Cities Summit and CleanEnviro Summit made a splash last week, with deals worth $14.5 billion signed, beating the 2012 record by almost $1 billion.
Multiple research tie-ups were announced during the week. Among these were the five signed by Singapore’s water agency PUB with companies such as Evoqua and Grundfos; they will undertake joint research into water-treatment technologies.
PUB chief executive Chew Men Leong said: “RD and innovation are at the forefront of the quest for water sustainability, and SIWW connects leaders and organisations across the water ecosystem to exchange ideas and experiences in real-world solutions.”
He added that the expansion of global water companies here reaffirmed Singapore’s status as a global hydrohub. Water-treatment firm Beijing Enterprises Water Group set up its international headquarters here to coordinate its overseas investments, estimated at $2 billion; Xylem has also located its Greater Asia headquarters here.
