SINGAPORE: Grassroots organisations and informal community groups play a big role in helping to spread important Budget information to those who need it.
Chairman of PAP Seniors Group, Halimah Yacob, said this on the sidelines of a community event on Saturday.
The information could relate to how people can benefit from the newly-announced Pioneer Generation Package.
She said that while most people welcome the package, many do not know how they can benefit.
Madam Halimah, who is also Speaker of Parliament, said the message must be kept simple, and more importantly, reach its intended audience.
And this is where groups such as Residents’ Committees and Voluntary Welfare Organisations (VWOs) can play a part.
“Whenever they have a programme or activity, they should just transmit the message in simple language, so that different sets of audience are able to understand, and they then help to spread the message. I think that’s important,” said Madam Halimah.
