AFC Leopards’ are expected to make an official request to South African club Supersport FC on Thursday to push their Confederation Cup clash, set for Saturday in Pretoria, back by a day following hitches in their travel plans.
Leopards failed to travel to South Africa on Thursday morning as planned after they were unable to obtain South African visas for their tour party.
“We applied for the visas at South African mission last Friday (February 21). The staff there say it takes seven working days to process this documents, but am thinking ours is a special case and they have no option but to fast track the same,” Leopards Chief Executive Officer Richard Ekhalie told KPL website.
The 26-strong Leopards’ travel party was set to depart for their six-hour trip to Pretoria on Thursday morning via Johannesburg. The club has now engaged Kenyan government to help in getting vital travel documents from the South Africans.
“I have asked AFC Leopards’ officials to immediately provide my office the full list of the travelling party including names, date of birth and other information of the team. All such applications are supposed to be done through the government anyway, so I am certain that we will have made commendable progress by the end of day,” Sports Commissioner Gordon Oluoch said.
Ekhalie added that the team has tentatively re-arranged to jet out Thursday evening or Friday morning.
