SINGAPORE: The first dialect dialogue on the Pioneer Generation Package was held in Jurong on Tuesday evening.
More than 100 elderly people were present. Details of the package were explained to them in Hokkien.
In general, the elderly said they were satisfied with the benefits, especially with the move to be included under the Community Health Assist Scheme (CHAS).
The scheme provides subsidies for medical and dental care at participating general practitioners and dental clinics.
Ms Grace Fu, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Office and MP for Yuhua, said: “There are many aspects of the package that needs a lot of explanation.
“By speaking in a language they are familiar with, we found that it is easier for us to communicate the ideas to them, so we will continue to do so in the future.”
The next dialect dialogue session will be held in Teochew in Tampines.
