Heads up, movie fans: “The Amazing Spider-Man 2” stars Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, Jamie Foxx and film director Mark Webb will be in Singapore to kick off this year’s Earth Hour next month.

Hot on the heels of the announcement of Spider-Man’s global ambassadorship for Earth Hour comes this initiative, as part of a partnership between Sony Pictures and Earth Hour organisers, the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF).

The action is slated to centre around Singapore’s hotshot Marina Bay area, which will be plunged into darkness from 8:30pm for an hour on Saturday, 29 March. Spiderman will make an “appearance” before the Hollywood stars countdown to the hour-long blackout at The Float @ Marina Bay.

Why here? Earth Hour takes Singapore as its global headquarters, and since its first lights-off event in Sydney in 2007, now involves global landmarks across 7,000 cities and towns, as well as 154 countries and territories.

On Tuesday, Garfield, Stone and Webb announced their support for three projects on Earth Hour’s crowd-funding and crowdsourcing platform “Earth Hour Blue”.

Garfield’s pet project is WWF Nepal’s “A Flame Called Hope”, which is raising funds to develop alternative energy biogas units that will be given to 100 households in a village in Nepal.

Stone is backing WWF International’s “Puppy Protectors”, an initiative that will fund training for four German Shepherd puppies in sniffing out animals, crime scenes, hidden wildlife products, dodge traps and chase poachers down. They will form a squad that will assist conservationists and soldiers in Nepal.

Webb, meanwhile, is throwing his support behind “Power Up A Ranger” by WWF Indonesia, a project that aims to raise funds to support the forest rangers working to protect endangered animals in Kalimantan and Sumatra. The funds raised will go toward equipment that will better-enable them to do their jobs.
