Air travelers from 20 states may be allowed 3 days of visa-free stay in Russia

The Russian Ministry of Culture has drafted a government resolution under which citizens of 20 countries will be allowed to stay in Russian territory for 72 hours without an entry visa, if they arrive by air for tourist purposes.


The draft was posted on the single portal of disclosing information about pending documents of federal bodies and results of their public discussion.

Foreigners allowed 3-day stay in Russia without visa


The new rules are expected to apply to the citizens of Germany, the United Kingdom, Sweden, Italy, France, Spain, Switzerland, Austria, Belgium, Finland, Greece, Poland, China, South Korea, Japan, Singapore, the United States, Canada and Australia.


Visa-free presence in Russian territory will be allowed if a person demonstrates an air ticket of a Russian carrier, confirmation of a hotel room booking, and a medical insurance policy.


“The measure is expected to have a positive effect on the economics of Russian airlines and increase the competitiveness of hubs [the receipts of Aeroflot -Russian Airlines alone are estimated to jump by over 30 billion rubles],” a memo to the draft resolution says.
