Expansion creates jobs

THE anticipated development plan for the Novotel Suva Hotel and Convention Facilities is expected to create up to 20 jobs after construction ends.

The CP Group of New Zealand, through its subsidiary Pandey Investments (Fiji) Limited, revealed plans to build one of the largest conference and wedding facilities with associated new 500 carpark facility at the hotel’s development land.

Group adviser and project director Sanjay Pratap said they had not set a budget at this stage and plans were yet to be finally costed.

“In terms of contributing to the tourism sector, it will allow for larger events to planned and hosted in Suva and Fiji. This will add to the three other venues on site and be the most comprehensive facility of its kind in Fiji.

“It will increase need for more accommodation rooms in Suva and hopefully more occupancy year round.”

The proposed new modern facility will cater for up to 2000 seats and will be built on the separate development land of 51 acres and be managed as part of the current Novotel Suva Hotel and Convention Facilities, he said.

“This is subject to all necessary approvals required in Fiji and final tender costs.

“Since purchasing the hotel and seeing the hotel operations stabilising after nearly five years of operations, refurbishments and understanding the market in Suva, we believe the time is right to build another added product given the high demand for this type of facility in Suva.

“Pandey Investments (Fiji) Limited has already spent a large capital amount refurbishing the Novotel Suva Hotel and Convention Facilities.”

Mr Pratap said initial construction was expected to start in August or September this year. This would allow a four-month planning period and site preliminary works to be completed.

A forecasted 15-month construction period was expected following the initial site works.

Other large hotel assets for the Group include Sofitel Auckland and Pullman Hotel Auckland.

The assets are part of more than 30 hotel property portfolios in New Zealand, Australia, US, Fiji, Singapore and Malaysia.
