Fun, food and fashion in Singapore

90680 World Gourmet Summit f14 For those with a penchant for gastronomic delights, the World Gourmet Summit 2013 brings together cuisines of top master chefs and world-class wines.

Love dining out? Want to be thrilled? If you’re a fashionista or shopaholic, you’re going to like Singapore.

WHAT do most Malaysians have in common – a love for food? While we have some of the best hawker and street food in the world, there seems to be not as much choice at the higher end of the dining scene.

Perhaps Singapore can fill that gap, no?

On your next holiday, you can easily look out for dining deals and events with the “Only in Singapore, Right Now!” campaign launched recently. There’s also the newly-launched Your Singapore Live portal, a one-stop centre that allows you to find out what’s happening in the island republic food-wise, fun spots to hang out at, and what’s new on the shopping and fashion front, among other things.

Try savouring signature dishes of the top chefs from around the globe at Singapore’s largest gourmet food festival, Savour 2013, which features 18 restaurants and a wide range of exhibitors. Taste over 60 award-winning dishes and enjoy over 300 complimentary tastings, workshops and activities from Michelin star chefs and industry icons, from April 11 to 14.

If you can’t make the date, then opt for the World Gourmet Summit 2013 which brings together the cuisines of top master chefs from five-star establishments across the island, as well as wines from world-class vintners. Expect gourmet golf activities, an edible fashion show (featuring garments made of chocolate), wine dinners, plus special-themed and celebrity dinners from April 16 to 26.

Done with dining, and want some fun? Family options include the brand new ride, Sesame Street Spaghetti Space Chase at Universal Studios Singapore. It features a zany science fiction-inspired plot, coupled with signature Sesame Street-styled humour and music and, of course, everyone’s favourite friends from Sesame Street.

There’s also the The Marine Life Park (MLP), Resorts World Sentosa’s second anchor attraction. It’s the world’s largest oceanarium in terms of water volume. With more than 60 million litres of water, the park is home to more than 100,000 marine animals from across 800 different species. MLP brings together the best of wet and dry experiences at a single oceanarium with two world-class attractions – Adventure Cove Waterpark and S.E.A. Aquarium, providing families with an unforgettable journey into the aquatic world.

And guess what’s back – it’s Fashion Steps Out, which has started two days ago and is scheduled to run on till May 5. Look forward to the return of a bold outdoor runway show on Orchard Road, which will bring traffic to a halt. There’s also a fashion bazaar with exclusive offerings from street fashion labels.

Great deals abound, making for an exceptional experience for everyone on Singapore’s famous shopping street. – S.S. Yoga
