SINGAPORE, 21 March (BelTA) – Belarus and Singapore agreed to begin working on a visa-free regime for citizens of the two countries, Foreign Minister of Belarus Vladimir Makei told reporters after the meeting with the senior officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Singapore, BelTA learned.
The Belarusian Foreign Minister noted that the parties signed an agreement on visa-free travel for holders of diplomatic and service passports. “We agreed that this is only the first step. The next one is a visa-free regime for citizens of Belarus and Singapore,” Vladimir Makei said.
“Of course, this is not done immediately, but we will gradually move toward this goal,” the minister added.
In addition, the parties agreed to improve the legal framework of bilateral cooperation. In particular, the two countries signed a double taxation avoidance agreement. “This is a very important agreement for both sides,” the minister said.
The parties also agreed to exchange visits at various levels: political, economic, humanitarian. Vladimir Makei said that he conveyed an invitation to the senior officials the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Singapore to visit Belarus, and the invitation was accepted. He also said that in April Belarus is set to host the speaker of the Parliament of Singapore. “This will be his first visit at the new post. We are already preparing for it and will do our best to make the program of the visit rich and meaningful,” the minister said.
