SINGAPORE: Top-rated Singapore comedy “The Noose” will return to Channel 5 for a sixth season on April 2, with a host of changes and a change of host.
Chua Enlai’s character, the smarmy newscaster B B See, will have a new co-anchor on the news parody show, in the form of Xin Hua Hua (Alaric Tay), a presenter from China who counts “taking part in nationalist movements” among his hobbies.
He takes over from big-haired Adrianna Wow, played by actress-director Michelle Chong, who will be absent from “The Noose” for the first time since the show’s inception in 2007.
Tay expressed that Xin Hua Hua is just the tip of the iceberg.
“I have a few new characters this season that is sure to tickle your funny bone.
“And some of the well-loved older ones will not disappoint the fans either,” said the comedian, who went on to describe the new season of “The Noose” as “totally inappropriate, but absolutely more entertaining” than previous ones.
The “We Are Singaporeans” segment, which tests Singaporeans on how much they know about their country, will also be replaced by “We Want to Be Singaporeans”, a segment where people from overseas are asked a variety of general knowledge questions about Singapore.
In addition, there will be a quirky new fortnightly movie preview segment, where viewers will get to see what happens when popular films are given a funny Singaporean twist.
Toss two new correspondents Henderson Pooper (Suhaimi Yusof), a bumbling war reporter, and See Yan Yan (Judee Tan), a reporter who started the notorious “Just Did It” blog with her boyfriend, into the mix, and you get one crazy show.
Despite the introduction of several new elements this season, “The Noose” head writer Prem Anand expressed that the show remains true to the formula that made it a hit, and continues to draw inspiration from current hot topics like Certificate of Entitlement prices and housing costs.
Fan favourites from past seasons like Thai correspondent Pornsak Sukhumvit and nasal-voiced reporter Andre Chichak will also return in “The Noose” Season 6.
“The Noose” airs every Tuesday from April 2, 8.30pm on Channel 5.
