Woman arrested on charge of visa fraud

The Kalamassery police arrested a woman on charge of gaining Rs.50 lakh from people after promising them jobs abroad.

Jaya Thomas, 50, of Alappuzha, was arrested in a case in which she allegedly took Rs. 5 lakh from a Kottayam native after promising his son a job in Singapore. The accused allegedly gave him just a visiting visa to swindle him.

“She told people that she ran an agency that supplied speed governors and could arrange jobs abroad through a close friend,” the police said in a communication. She allegedly gave them visiting visas and said that her friend would arrange for a job visa once they reached Singapore. The complainant and three others were reportedly imprisoned in Singapore as they had only a visiting visa and could not find a job.

The accused allegedly took about Rs.50 lakh from people in Kottayam, Thodupuzha, Ramapuram, Kattappana and Kumarakom in a similar manner.
