Local banks named Singapore"s top banks at AsiaOne People"s Choice 2014

SINGAPORE – DBS has been named Singapore’s favourite bank at the AsiaOne People’s Choice Awards (PCA) 2014.

A total of 85 awards were given out to consumer products and service providers at the awards held on Wednesday.

DBS was revealed as the consumer top choice for banks after votes were collected from the general public over a three-month period.

Also among the top were two other local banks OCBC and UOB.

In the Best Credit Card group, POSB’s Everyday Card emerged the most popular while Maybank’s Family Friends Platinum MasterCard and OCBC’s NTUC Plus! Visa Card also made the top three.

Over 200,000 votes were cast for the 28 award categories this year.

New categories like Best Family-Friendly Mall, Best Attraction, Best Boutique Hotel and Best Cafe, were added to better reflect the consumer experience.

The winners for these categories were VivoCity, Universal Studios Singapore, Studio M Hotel Singapore and Starbucks.

Shopping centres ION Orchard and City Square Mall were named top winners for the Shopping Centres (City) and Shopping Centres (Suburbs) categories respectively.

Guest-of-Honour Mr Kurt Wee, President of the Association of Small and Medium Enterprises (ASME), said that the PCA played an important role in providing feedback from consumers to companies.

Mr Wee said: “With technology, it is so much easier and convenient for the public to express their satisfaction or unhappiness with products and services.”

Mr Adrian Tay, Editor of AsiaOne, said: “The People’s Choice Awards is a platform for consumers to have their voices heard, and the year-on-year increase in votes is a testament to that.”
