Favourite Rebel Dane could manage only fifth.

“I travelled like the winnner until the 300 and then I asked him to go and there was nothing there,” Rebel Dane’s jockey Glen Boss said. “I don’t know what to say about that except it was disappointing.”

Gary Portelli will try to pick up the pieces with Rebel Dane, who  was runner-up to Lankan Rupee in the TJ Smith, and plans to run him in the Doomben 10,000.

“We didn’t think that the TJ had taken that much out of him but obviously it did,” Portelli said. “We will get him home and check him out and I think the 10,000 in a month’s time might be the right race for him.”

Hana’s Goal, a tiny mare who had a victory over dual Japan Cup winner Gentlidonna at group 3 as three-year-old, looked the best she had in the yard with her coat finally come through and raced to her best.

”She has probably adjusted a bit now,” Rawiller said. ”She has run in two of our hardest races. It is not easy to come here from the other side of the world and run in a Doncaster. Today the small field suited her and she showed her class, which she has plenty of.

“It’s a tough ask bringing a mare all the way out here. There will be more of it next year.

“I rode her in trackwork on Tuesday. Just tried to concentrate on getting her to relax well and kept a lot in the tank for today. We knew how good she is and fitness wasn’t going to be a problem.”

Hana’s Goal is owned by Michael Taber, an Australian who lives in Japan and his father Laurie made it clear how win the would be received in the land of the rising sun.

“The Japanese media will go ballistic about it because they have teams of people out here for four weeks following us all around. Yeah it will be big,” he said.

Hana’s Goal is likely to head to SIngapore for next month’s Krisflyer Sprint, although the Stradbroke in Brisbane is a consideration.

“Michael has a possibilty of going to Singapore for the Group 1 there,” Laurie Taber said. ”I know he’s been invited to Queensland but I don’t think he will go to Queensland at this stage because of the distances, but that’s up to him.

”The whole quarantine thing is a big one, she can’t race back in Japan for some time. She can get to Singapore quite comfortably, so that’s what we’re looking at.”

Weary, a former French horse, is in his first preparation for Chris Waller, who thinks he is a very classy galloper after his third in the Doncaster and second on Saturday.

“He is the complete package and can go for a break,” Waller said. “I think he will be better next time in and I’m looking forward to that.

“He ran into a really nice horse there but he beat the rest comfortably.”
