Lows
The early start of the marathon itself can be annoying for some runners who like a good rest before race day. The race begins at 5am so that competitors are not running through the warmest portion of the day. Even at this early hour, temperatures can be an issue.
Since its inception, this annual race has gone from strength to strength and grown with every passing year. Thousands of indigenous runners make up the majority of competitors in this marathon, but a large swathe of foreign runners migrate to this island nation in Southeast Asia to take part annually.

It is no mystery as to why the race is now considered one of Asia’s top road races. The breathtaking skyline, tropical climate and Asian culture all add up to make this a highly desirable marathon destination. As well as this, the marathon is a family-friendly affair. As well as the gruelling 26.2 mile run, a half-marathon, 10k run and even a Kids’ dash (750m) race are all offered.
The race was awarded the gold medal certification by the International Association of Athletics federation following the 2011 and 2012 races which were a huge success. This places the Singapore marathon alongside some of the best marathons in the world, like the Berlin, London and New York marathons.
The race takes you past some of Singapore’s most beautiful and iconic landmarks, such as the Gardens by the bay and east coast park. Past runners have commented on the cleanliness of the city as a whole, as it simply is not in their culture to litter. This means that the running course is near spotless and runners need not worry about tripping on any loose pieces of litter that may be floating around!
