Google Maps "Street View" Now Takes Users to Travel Back in Time

Google now introduces mapping of street level. This enables users to see cities, attractions and neighborhoods of the past that have changed after 2007.

You can now watch the Washington Howard Theater as it looked like in 2009 July and how it appeared in 2012 May, after renovation.  Google has turned into a typical time machine that gives its Google Maps Street view to view back in time and to know how places have changed now.

This new feature of Google gives users an opportunity to change track in buildings, landscape, neighborhoods and roads, from the world right from the time the program began in 2007.

Users can click on a clock icon appearing on the screen corner while using Street View on Google Maps on laptop computer or desktop. On changing the year, the firing up scrollbar controlled time machine gives you currently how they look and how it has got transformation overtime.

Product Manager, Google Street View, Vinay Shet, said, ‘If you have dreamt of traveling like Doc Brown, this is a great chance’. There is lot of historical imagery gathered from the earlier street view collections from 2007 to develop this digital time capsule.

Google Street View map shows how a building in Singapore looks in 2008 October. This will appear on the upper left against a recent photo.

Google’s Street View employs cameras car-mounted to capture the street-level photos. They stitch the images into a virtual representation such that it is overlaid on Google’s maps.

This new feature offers digital timeline of history, such as the reconstruction after 2011 tsunami and earthquake, Japan.  This feature helps visualizing directions and the users can identify and find locations. In fact, one can even experience seasons and watch how it would be if you wish to cruise in summer and winter the Italian roadways.
