Locals on World Tenpin Tour
The 2014 PBA Tour season ended with last week’s USBC Masters in North Brunswick, N.J., but some pros, including John Szczerbinski of North Tonawanda and Brad Angelo of Lockport are busy on the World Tenpin Tour.
Szczerbinski finished 10th and collected $2,300 in the E.H. Emir Cup Tournament in Qatar, which wound up Friday. Angelo was 26th and earned $1,200.
Jason Belmonte, who won his second straight USBC Masters last Sunday, was 16th, good for $1,800.
Chris Barnes of Double Oak, Texas, defeated woman bowler New Hui Fen of Singapore, 493-483, in the two-game championship match to win the title in Qatar.
Fen’s scores included eight handicap pins per game, an equality handicap provided to women in many international events, but she needed no help in defeating Bill O’Neill of Langhorne, Pa., 489-397, in the semifinals.
From Qatar, Szczerbinski and the others move on to the Kingdom of Bahrain International Championship, which begins with qualifying on Sunday.
