SINGAPORE: Senior Minister of State for Finance and Transport Josephine Teo said Budget 2014 addresses key concerns Singaporean women have, such as healthcare costs for their parents and education fees for their children.

Mrs Teo was speaking on Saturday at a dialogue attended by some 300 women in Nee Soon GRC, in the lead-up to International Women’s Day on March 8.

She said: “Especially those in the sandwich class, women in the sandwich class, I think there is a lot in the Budget that will help them, not only for this year, but the future years as well… When we help their parents and help their children, it means we can lighten their load as well.”

Mrs Teo was referring to the Pioneer Generation Package and education subsidies announced in the Budget.

More will also be done to encourage employers to offer flexible work arrangements for women.

The labour movement will launch a campaign on this matter on March 5, said NTUC Assistant Secretary-General Patrick Tay, who also took part in the dialogue on Saturday evening.
