THE United States government is “deeply concerned” about Singapore’s recent introduction of a framework for news websites, and has called it “restrictive”.
Speaking at a daily briefing for reporters on Monday, State Department spokesman Jen Psaki urged Singapore to ensure that freedom of expression is protected in accordance with its international obligations and commitments.
She added that the US raises Internet freedom regularly in bilateral and multilateral dialogues with other governments, including Singapore’s.
“We closely monitor and often speak out… on both Internet freedom and media freedom throughout the world.
