SINGAPORE – After more than decade since its departure, The Westin returns to Singapore with some 300 jobs to offer. Ahead of its official launch in November this year, the hotel has launched a two day mass recruitment drive starting today till July 10, 2013 at Asia Square.

Out of the 300 jobs that it hopes to create, The Westin Singapore aims to meet the quota of manpower here in Singapore, which requires that at least 60 per cent of employment involves that of the locals. And among the associations it has partnered include the local hospitality school, Shatec Institute.

“We welcome people who are keen to join the hospitality industry, even if they do not have prior experience or background in the hotel scene,” said Lance Ourednik, general manager, The Westin Singapore.

The recruitment drive is well-timed to meet the rising demand for quality manpower in Singapore. According to the Customer Satisfaction Index of Singapore 2012, the hospitality sector recorded the greatest dip in scores amongst both locals (-5.9%) and tourists (-8.9%). The opening of The Westin Singapore will provide investment in training, providing a welcome boost to the industry.

“We are delighted to re-establish our presence in Singapore after more than a decade away. In addition to helping to boost the local economy and labour market by generating career opportunities, we are confident that the Westin brand and its renowned service culture will make a positive contribution to the service industry here,” said Chuck Abbott, regional vice-president, Southeast Asia, Starwood Hotels and Resorts.

Leveraging on its signature guest experiences, The Westin has developed an “Associate Enrichment Program” which seeks to incorporate some of the brand’s guest experiences to its employees. This covers the areas of healthy food choices and overall well-being, both in and out of workplace. For example, the hotel will be providing its Heavenly Pillows in the employee rest area, integrating SuperFoodsRX concept into the cafeteria menu and supporting its associates’ fitness activities with WestinWORKOUT programmes.

The 305-room hotel is currently one of the biggest construction projects undertaken in the Central Business District area. It is also the first integrated upscale hotel located within an office building in Singapore, with the city-state’s highest hotel lobby, located at level 32.
