LOOSEN your belts and prepare to chow down on a delicious spread as the Singapore Favourite Food Village (SFF Village), held in conjunction with the Singapore Tourism Board’s Singapore Food Festival, opens its doors today.
The 10-day event is organised by the Singapore Food and Beverage Alliance (SFBA) and will feature more than 100 dishes by 40 hawkers and eateries – including renowned ones such as Lao Fu Zi Fried Kway Teow, Lek Lim Nonya Cake Confectionery, China Street Fritters, and Moi Lum Restaurant – to showcase Singapore’s diverse culinary heritage. It costs $900,000 to put together and is targeting 500,000 visitors, both local and foreign.
SFBA’s director Luke Lee says unlike previous years, an online poll was conducted to determine who would participate in the event, so as to reflect what local food means to the public. From the 60 short-listed vendors in each dish category, the top 20 were picked. And unlike the numerous other food events happening in Singapore, the SFF Village doesn’t include Western concepts.
Besides the usual chilli crabs and chicken rice, unique items such as Dendeng burger (with beef jerky), stingray curry puffs and salted egg yolk fish skin snacks await.
