SingTel Mobile confirms nationwide coverage for LTE - TeleGeography

Singapore’s SingTel Mobile yesterday announced that, helped by an investment of SGD150 million (USD120.9 million) over the past year, it has completed the nationwide deployment of its 4G Long Term Evolution (LTE) network, joining rival M1 Limited (M1) which has already achieved that feat. In a press release, the operator says that the new network can support maximum data speeds of 150Mbps, street-level coverage has been increased to 95% of the population while indoor coverage is now available in more than 550 buildings, including shopping malls, hotels and other commercial centres.

Commenting on the milestone, SingTel CEO for consumer services Mr Yuen Kuan Moon, said: ‘In the last year, we have spent more than SGD150 million to provide nationwide 4G coverage and will continue to invest to meet fast growing demand. We strive to deliver the fastest and most consistent mobile broadband experience by implementing some of the most advanced network features and capabilities available.’ The official went on to say that it is also progressively rolling out multiple-input-multiple-output (MIMO) technology in commercial buildings to double maximum user download speeds to 150Mbps, with MIMO already operational in high-transit areas such as Nex, Jurong Point, Changi Airport and Tampines Mall. ‘More than 300,000 customers have signed up for our 4G service since its launch in June 2012. As more 4G-enabled devices become available in the market, we expect the pace of adoption to accelerate. We believe that the majority of our mobile customers will be 4G users by 2015,’ Mr Yuen said.

SingTel rival M1 reached the 95% street-level coverage landmark in September 2012, while the city-state’s third player, StarHub, aims to complete its national 4G coverage by the end of this year, up from the current figure of 60%.
