GOALS IN MIND: Barisan Nasional’s parliament candidate for Bakri has
big plans for the constituency
MUAR: SETTING up a tourist information centre is one of the plans in Barisan Nasional Bakri parliamentary constituency candidate Chris Lee Ching Yong’s checklist.
“The centre will be at Bentayan Village and Community Coordinating committee (JPMM Bentayan) office at Jalan Ali,” said Lee, a lawyer.
He hoped that the centre would then provide tourists with reliable information during their visit here.
Lee said that the plans to boost tourism in Muar have already been carried out by Barisan Nasional, although the Bakri parliamentary constituency and Bentayan state seat were held by the opposition before the election.
He said a map of Muar attractions featured in the 2012 Muar City Map was one of the efforts initiated by him.
“We are planning an updated version, with improvement on the contents,” he said.
Lee was also hoping that more youths would join the community policing programme.
“To boost security, the Bandar Maharani community policing programme was launched last December. It has about 20 volunteers of local folks and People’s Volunteer Corps (Rela),” he said.
He added that the group of youths aged below 40 had dedicated their free time to patrol the town area daily, according to schedule.
“Community policing is also done at the neighbourhood by the Rukun Tetangga,” he said.
“To help them, one or two police personnel are assigned for each community policing group. For example, Sungai Abong community policing is assisted by one policeman from Sungai Abong police station.”
Meanwhile, in a recent ceramah, Lee called for the public to reject the DAP for promoting the politics of hatred and creating a false impression to woo voters.
Lee was speaking to about 500 visitors in a recent event at Jalan Parit Tiram to introduce candidates for the Bakri parliament seat as well as Bentayan, Bukit Naning and Sungai Abong state seats.
He said DAP had tried to embed the politics of hatred in the minds of the youth because they have not done anything that they could be proud of for the rakyat.
“Since DAP came to Bakri, they have played up on the racial issue by saying that Chinese hawkers were disrupted by Malay employees of the local council. However, they didn’t mention about illegal factories that are still operating on agricultural land by the Chinese at Bukit Bakri.”
He said DAP had also influenced the constituents to vote based on their personal liking of a party and not on the work that had been done for the rakyat.
“They also used tactics to create a false impression that they are supported by the rakyat,” he said.
“For example, during recent ceramah at Bakri and Kluang that were attended by about 500 guests, the opposition would bring another 1,500 members to the venue. They would cheer to shouts of ‘ubah’ when called by the opposition, ” he said, adding that those who were easily influenced would be swayed by the false impression of support to the opposition.
“They also bring over supporters from elsewhere, for instance when Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim gave his talk at Bukit Naning, supporters from Simpang Jeram would also be brought over.”
Lee added that the opposition also gave car stickers calling for “ubah” to Malaysians working in Singapore so these could be seen by the public when they travelled between the state and Singapore.
“DAP also employed 300 cybertroopers to instil hate and attack Barisan Nasional. They would add people in Facebook and post comments against Barisan Nasional,” he said.
Present with Lee were Bukit Naning state seat candidates Datuk Saipolbahari Suib for Bukit Naning, Helen Fong Soh Lan for Bentayan and Datuk Dr Haris Salleh for Sungai Abong.
The Bakri parliamentary seat was won by DAP’s Er Teck Hwa in the 2008 general election.
