S"pore Maritime Week 2014 to be biggest show since inception

SINGAPORE: This year’s Singapore Maritime Week (SMW), the ninth in the series, will feature 29 events, and it will be the biggest show since its inception in 2006.

It will take place from 6 to 11 April 2014.

The line-up of events are organised by the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) and key local and international maritime players.

Andrew Tan, chief executive of MPA, said: “This year’s SMW has close to 30 events, built around the theme of ‘People, Ideas and Opportunities’. We have put in more efforts to reach out to the public, especially the young, through fun and exciting outreach activities.

“We hope to put Singapore on the thought leadership map, by bringing the best experts and practitioners to share their expertise and insights, and promoting the exchange of best practices in the industry.

“With Singapore’s strategic location, SMW also provides a one-of-its-kind business platform for companies to access new market in the region and beyond.”

Singaporeans can also visit the SMW exhibition at VivoCity, Jurong Point and Parkway Parade from 31 March to 6 April to learn more about Singapore’s maritime industry.

More than 400 students, maritime employees and members of the public will also go on learning journeys, which include a port and sea tour to the Raffles Lighthouse.

For the maritime industry, organisers said SMW is also an ideal platform to exchange ideas and discuss issues or developments pertinent to the industry.

The events will also showcase Singapore’s thought leadership on maritime issues.

The SMW events will also create opportunities for delegates to meet, network and forge business relationships.
