Don’t even get us started on the food. The cuisine of Singapore is legendary and, what’s more, the best meals don’t come from five-star restaurants atop skyscrapers (although it has these as well), but from hawker markets, where chicken rice and laksa are served food court-style for under $10, and with such quality and flavor as to make foodies weep (or, more often, travel here specifically for the pleasure). Breakfast is as simple as kaya toast.
As far as entertainment, Singapore is blessed with a tropical climate which will delight travelers looking for warmth. Carry an umbrella for those brief afternoon downpours so typical of southeast Asia, but otherwise the best sights can be seen on foot. There’s also a speedy, spick-and-span subway system, relatively cheap taxis, and even onward flights around Asia on budget carriers, departing from the beautiful Changi International Airport.
Hopefully a bit of our love for Singapore will help to lift the veil from the eyes of travelers seeing only high price tags. The full listing of the top 5 most expensive is below, and it’s really those last threeOslo, Zurich and Sydneywhere you’ll be parting with a fair bit of coin no matter how hard you try to stay on budget.
