SingPost gifts Singapore with stamps to mark 48th year of independence

SingPost has presented to Singaporeans a special collage of stamps to mark their country’s 48th year of independence.

SINGAPORE: SingPost has presented to Singaporeans a special collage of stamps to mark their country’s 48th year of independence.

Measuring 1.6 metres by 1.2 metres, the collage takes the shape of a Singapore map.

It is made up of over 450 old and new Singapore stamps contributed by the public and SingPost.

SingPost says one of the stamps in the collection can be traced back to the 1940s, and is possibly the oldest stamp contributed by the public. It was issued by the British Military Administration.

Called the “Gift to the Nation”, the collage has travelled to different parts of Singapore from July 29 to September 23, along with a guest book which collected over 460 well wishes.

President Tony Tan Keng Yam accepted the collage on behalf of all Singaporeans on Monday.

It will be on permanent display at the Fullerton Heritage Gallery at Fullerton Hotel, which formerly housed Singapore’s General Post Office.
