Singapore fall to Laos in AFF U19 Championship

The Young Lions stumbled on their quest to a semi-final spot, falling 3-0 to underdogs Laos who stormed to the top of their group

Laos continued their good form in the AFF U19 Championship making it three wins in a row by crushing Singapore 3-0 on Friday evening in Surabaya, Indonesia.

Phithack Kongmathilath broke the deadlock in the 8th minute with an exquisitely placed freekick before Armisay Kettavong grabbed a brace to make it nine points and nine goals from three games for the tournament’s surprise package.

Laos could have made the scoreline a lot higher had it not been for the good form of Singapore custodian Shahul Rayyan Mohammad Redzuan. The Young Lions also had to battle hard to keep their opponents at bay and saw two good chances through Mahatir Azeman.

In the group’s other match, Timor Leste overcame Cambodia 3-1.

The results leave Singapore tied for second spot with Timor Leste who have a game in hand. The top teams from each group advance to the semi-final spot and leaders Laos have already secured a berth.

Singapore next face Cambodia on September 17 where a win will ensure of a final-four spot.
