When there is a jackpot in Tattslotto every man, women and dog packs to their local newsagency to buy a ticket. Despite the chances of winning actually being less than the probability of stepping on the moon, the smell of optimism is infectious.
On Saturday at Moonee Valley there is a guaranteed Big 6 pool of $1million and unless Atlantic Jewel is beaten you won’t need to be Neil Armstrong to be a chance of collecting.
The first tip to give you is to hit the outstanding bakery on Puckle Street whilst strolling from the station to the track. After arriving at the track with a stomach full of fresh pastry and a smile on your face, it is time to map out your Big 6 and work out how you can make an earn.
The first leg is tough, you get the feeling that if it was run five times there could be five different winners and luck in running and a good ride could make the difference.
In the second-leg Atlantic Jewel is a no-brainer, and while the $1.10 does not overly appeal, she does look a free-kick for your Big 6 and we are happy to anchor our bet through her.
Emerging star Moment Of Change should be winning the third leg, but just to be safe we will throw in Platelet as we would rather be alive and take a smaller percentage, plus we love trainer D.K Weir.
The Fourth leg is the Dato and the toughest race of the day. Whilst the favourites look hard to beat there is an element of doubt about them at this stage of the campaign and we are going to go wide and take the field.
In the fifth leg High Esteem should return to the winner’s list and the only danger appears to be ex-Singapore galloper Clear For Action, we will go skinny here and only take those two.
By this stage if you have a live ticket your heart will be racing faster than the horses and your palms getting very clammy. We suggest taking a few runners here and hopefully cheering home the winner.
And just like Damien Oliver, we will be looking to make a winning return at the Valley tomorrow
