Giving details of the case, the SSP said Jaspal Singh of Badhowal village had lodged a complaint with the police that all three travel agents had taken passports of about 24 youths wanting to work in Singapore and had taken Rs 30,000 each for getting them work visas. The travel agents had opened their office in Rayya town near Amritsar.
The officer said during preliminary interrogation the accused revealed that they had issued about 20 fake work visas by taking money from the applicants. “We are on the lookout for all such persons to record their statements and seize fake work visas,” he said. He further said the police have not found any direct involvement of the constable in the alleged racket. Harvinder Singh, a visa seeker allegedly duped by the travel agents, said he paid Rs 30,000 to them for the work visa, but was shocked to find that it was fake. Similarly, another victim, Parshotam Singh, said he had also lost his hard-earned money and wanted police to recover the amount from the agents who defrauded him and others.
