RIYADH – Singapore Minister of Commerce and Industry Lee Yee Sheen and his accompanying delegation will hold a meeting with members of the Saudi-Singaporean Business Council at the headquarters of the Council of Saudi Chambers here today (Tuesday).
The meeting comes as parts of the minister’s meetings with the Saudi businessmen following his and accompanying delegation’s participation in the Jeddah Economic Forum in which they have participated.
The meeting will be moderated by Chairman of the Council of Saudi Chambers Eng. Abdullah Al Mobty, with participation of chairman and members of the Saudi side of the joint council, and a number of businessmen and chairmen of Saudi-based Singaporean companies from the Singaporean side.
According to the chairman of the Saudi-Singaporean Business Council Abdullah Al Melaihy, the meeting aims at promoting business cooperation between the two countries and highlighting investment opportunities in them.
Also, it will be a chance for Saudi businessmen to share their views and inquiries with the Singaporean official, as well as the challenges that face them in their dealings with Singapore.
The meeting is expected to focus on issues related to the Kingdom’s strategic directions in various fields, including technical education, training and preparing Saudi youths (both sexes), in addition to taking advantage of Singapore’s expertise in the fields of education and training.
Al Melaihy added that the meeting will also touch on the role of the joint council in developing economic ties between Saudi Arabia and yield tangible outcomes similar to those that happened before, such as the opening of a direct air route between Saudi Arabia and Singapore, enabling Saudi businessmen to obtain a five-year visa, and organizing a successful Saudi delegation visit to Singapore last September which resulted in a SR100 million deal to establishing joint ventures and facilitating the entrance of investors in both countries.
The head of Saudi side in the joint council noted that Singapore, on both official and private sectors levels, shows great interest in the Saudi market and the opportunities available in it due to the Kingdom’s development renaissance, especially in the field of construction and economic cities as Singapore possesses a large expertise in that regard.
He pointed out that business opportunities in the two countries also includes fields such as services, transport, healthcare, tourism, education, training, among others. Singapore is also considered a global financial center and possesses capabilities that could be used to create strategic trade partnerships between the two countries. – SG
