Indonesian officials are seeking to garner interest in the country’s water PPP opportunities through an international roadshow in North America and the Middle East.
- The tour kicked off in Toronto earlier this month.
- Meanwhile, Indonesia’s Ministry of Public Works is planning to bring in new regulations which will require property developers to build wastewater treatment plants for all new developments with more than 100 housing units. Earlier experience with a similar approach in Malaysia highlighted the problems of operating and managing thousands of small facilities.
- Desalination project developer Aqualyng is considering an offer from the local government of Caofeidian to purchase its 50% stake in the 50,000m3/d Caofeidian SWRO desalination plant in China. It is not yet clear whether the government has also extended an offer to Beijing Enterprises Water Group, which holds the remainder of the equity.
- Hyflux reported a 373% surge in posttax profits to S$37.9 million (US$30.3 million) for the first quarter, largely thanks to the divestment of its stake in the JV with Marmon Water, which generated a one-off gain of S$54.1 million (US$43.3 million). Group revenues, on the other hand, were down almost 30%, and expectations are for a slow year ahead due to delays in connecting the Tuaspring power plant to the Singapore grid and glacial progress on the Dahej desalination project in India.
- Hong Kong-listed industrial wastewater treatment specialist CT Environmental (Chongto) has agreed to acquire sludge treatment specialist Qingyuan Luyou Environmental Protection for RMB125 million ($20.1 million). The purchase will boost Chongto’s sludge treatment capacity from 400 tonnes/day to almost 1,900 t/d.
- Sound Global, meanwhile, has bought Humen Green Source Water Company for RMB202 million ($32.4 million). Humen Green Source owns two wastewater BOTs in China’s Guangdong Province.
- Australian water treatment specialist Water Resources Group has again delayed the finalisation of its rescue finance package, and now hopes to seal the deal on 28 May.
