SINGAPORE: Students from various educational institutes on Saturday took part in Singapore’s first mass tree-planting activity.
The event was held at Dairy Farm Nature Park and involved students from primary to tertiary levels.
The students and their teachers spent two hours planting 50 trees of native varieties to help green up the park.
The initiative aimed to encourage Singaporean students to take collective responsibility in shaping a better “City in a Garden”.
Teo Mei Teng, a student at Ngee Ann Polytechnic, said: “As a Singaporean, we rarely have (a) chance to plant a tree.”
Dr Shawn Lum, president of Nature Society (Singapore), said: “It’s not just a physical thing about trees and buildings, but it’s really about how much you invest of yourself in the city.”
