SINGAPORE LAUNCHES KICKSTART FUND WITH MENTORING FROM ...

Singapore fumes as air pollution hits 16 year high

ASIASingapore’s recently-launched incentive scheme, the Kickstart Fund, will give successful applicants guidance for mentoring and support from industry leaders.

The SD$5m (US$4m) Kickstart Fund is aimed at supporting untested yet innovative lifestyle events and concepts with tourism potential.

The mentors are selected based on their in-depth market knowledge and experience in their field. Kickstart Fund mentors include:

  • Dennis Foo, Chief Executive Officer and Executive Director of St James Holdings

  • Andrew Ing, Chief Operating Officer of The Lo Behold Group

  • Robin Lokerman, President of MCI Group Asia Pacific

  • J P Nathan, Director of Programming and Partnership at The Esplanade Company

  • Michael Roche, Executive Director, Singapore GP and MD of Live Nation Lushington

  • Esther Soh, MD at Zouk

“The Kickstart Fund encourages and accelerates software innovation and new ideas through providing on various fronts,” says Singapore Tourism Board’s Executive Director of Arts and Entertainment and F1 and Sports, Lynette Pang.

“Apart from the financial assistance to help defray the initial high risks of experimenting with new ideas, we will also connect grant recipients to industry veterans who can provide practical guidance to help maximise the potential of their project ideas.”

Kickstart Fund mentor Roche, adds: “The first steps and early development of taking an idea and concept to a sustainable business model are the most challenging and daunting. It’s that giant leap where support and guidance can be critical to success and I hope that I can lend focus, support and steerage to the Kickstart entrepreneurs to become Singapore’s new business innovators.”

The Kickstart Fund, which supports experimental concepts across the lifestyle sectors of arts, entertainment, sports, retail and dining, will hold quarterly calls for applications until March 2016. Examples of projects that may be supported by Kickstart include pop-ups, live events, and services such as art and culinary tours. The first cycle for applications is open until 28 June.
