Asia has accommodation options ranging from opulent five star hotels to roach-infested shared rooms in hostels. HotelQuickly wants to help you stay on the upper end of that spectrum, without breaking the bank.

HotelQuickly is a same-day hotel booking app that focuses on markets in the Asia-Pacific. It has surpassed 100,000 downloads in under three months and is now live in ten countries.

The startup takes a similar approach to HotelTonight, a company that pioneered the mobile same-day hotel booking model and has since expanded into 12 countries and over 100 destinations around the world with more than 2500 hotel partners. Both companies offer curated sets of hotel deals everyday at noon. If you need a hotel room on-the-fly, these apps will present you with unsold rooms at steep discounts that you can book through your smartphone.

HotelTonight is dominant in the U.S. and Europe and has raised over $35 million to accelerate its global expansion. HotelQuickly is chugging away in an effort to be the dominant player in the Asia-Pacific region, which is not only a tourist hot spot, but also a hot market for mobile. Smartphone penetration, mobile internet infrastructure, social media adoption are all increasing rapidly, and these markets remain largely untapped. Founder Christian Mischler said that people in the region adapt to technology very quickly, going from “zero to mobile,” and a rising middle class combined with affordable transportation are fueling a robust tourism industry.

The founding team are all Europeans established their headquarters in Hong Kong. Two of the founders previously worked for Rocket Internet incubated companies. HotelQuickly is taking a leaf out of Rocket Internet’s book by taking an proven, existing model and replicating it in an emerging market.

As someone who has slept in a wide range of hotels in Southeast Asia, I have had quite a few harrowing experiences in “budget accommodation.” HotelQuickly provides a more cost-effective, convenient way to sleep on clean sheets at an affordable price point. It is currently active in Australia, Cambodia, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Macau, Malaysia, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand, and Vietnam, and available on iOS, Android, and BlackBerry.
