Russian business people to visit APEC members without visas

Russian business people, heads and employees of the companies, as well as state officials, are now allowed to visit 18 APEC members, including Australia, Indonesia, Japan, New Zealand and other countries, without visas, using special APEC Business Travel Cards following the agreement ‘on Russian Federation accession to the APEC Business Travel Cards scheme’ coming into force on June 1.

Valid for three years, this travel document eliminates the need for its holder to possess a visa when visiting other APEC participating economies as long as pre-clearance has been obtained during the application process.

Holders of such cards, however, are not allowed to visit Canada and the US that are currently transitional members of APEC.

This travel document will be given mostly for top-level state officials and business people without criminal records and can be used only for business or official trips.

The same rule extends to foreigners who are willing to visit Russia without visa, according to press-release issued by the Russian Foreign Ministry.

Last summer Russian President Vladimir Putin has abolished Russian entry visa requirements for foreign nationals who hold APEC Business Travel Cards.

According to APEC’s official website, the 18 fully participating members are: Australia, Brunei Darussalam, China, Chile, Hong Kong, China, Korea, Indonesia, Japan, Peru, Philippines, Malaysia, Mexico, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, Singapore, Chinese Taipei, Thailand, and Vietnam. The 3 transitional members are: Canada, Russia, United States.
