China"s Hu Mu forced to pull out after visa snag

PETALING JAYA: It was a short-lived stay in the country for China’s Hu Mu, who only managed to play one round at the Worldwide Holdings Selangor Masters.

Hu Mu, who shot an opening 76 on Thursday, had expected to obtain his visa on arrival here but he was given only a transit visa, which expired on Friday.

He had contemplated flying to Singapore on Wednesday in the hope of getting a longer visa upon his return back into Malaysia.

But the attempt to obtain an extension on his visa proved futile, forcing the 23-year-old to withdraw from the RM1.2mil Asian Tour tournament, which is the 13th leg of the 2013 season.

“I didn’t realise that the visa on arrival was no longer available for Chinese nationals when I flew into Malaysia.

“I was given only a transit visa when I arrived on Monday and had to leave the country by Friday, 2pm,” said Hu Mu, who is currently ranked 32nd on the Asian Tour’s Order of Merit.

He was clearly disappointed at the turn of events as he was looking forward to testing his game against the region’s stars at the Seri Selangor Golf Club after spending several weeks in Orlando, the United States, with renowned swing guru David Leadbetter.

“We worked on several things to try and get my swing and game better,” he said.
