Singapore Airlines, Singapore Tourism Board collaborate to boost visitor arrivals

Singapore Airlines (SIA) and the Singapore Tourism Board (STB) have embarked on a strategic partnership, which aims to attract more visitors from key source markets to Singapore.

The partnership, which runs until June 30, 2015, entails a global marketing collaboration between SIA and STB that targets, for the first time, a broad spectrum of leisure, cruise and business visitors. It would see the partners investing a total of S$4 million (US$3.2 million) in joint campaigns across the globe, with focus on Australia, China, Germany, India, Japan, the UK and the US.

The partners will also be jointly investing in the co-development of new products, where exclusive and customised experiences would be curated for SIA customers from the target markets based on their interests.

Lynette Pang, STB’s assistant chief executive, marketing group, said, “Through this complementary partnership, SIA and STB will leverage each other’s consumer and trade insights to ensure that travellers have a more in-depth Singapore experience that meets their needs and wants. Consumers already have a strong brand affinity to SIA, and would be able to easily relate to new marketing initiatives and products. Together, we can amplify the Singapore story, and attract more quality visitors.”

Last year SIA and STB worked together to enhance the Singapore Stopover Holiday (SSH) package to attract travellers from Europe who are particularly attracted by Singapore’s unique cultural mix and lush greenery.

Since its launch, this refreshed SSH package has seen double-digit growth in bookings over the same period in the previous year.

Abacus’ breaking new g ound with conference in Abu Dhabi

Abacus is heading to Abu Dhabi for its biennial Abacus International Conference (AIC) this year, from October 14-17 at the Yas Events Centre.

Over 500 delegates will be flying into Abu Dhabi to evaluate and debate the latest technological innovations around travel, in the context of the trends now driving booking behaviour across the 31 regional markets that Abacus serves.

The technology company will highlight how strategic investment in network infrastructure will stimulate demand.

Robert Bailey, Abacus’ president and CEO, said Abu Dhabi was the right setting to talk about ground breaking growth and enterprise as ”The Middle East’s aviation brands are now themselves trending in Asia Pacific, with the region’s award-winning hubs attracting over ten-fold increases in bookings on the most popular routes, year-on-year.”

Leading industry speakers are scheduled to address delegates, alongside separate tracks that will refine retail strategies, expand big data’s role and showcase the latest automation tools.

Malaysia’s Star Media Group has jumped onto the online shopping platform with the recent launch of Star Shopping, a new shopping website.

A partnership between Star Publications (M) Berhad, publisher of national daily The Star, and ShopStylers Sdn Bhd, the online shopping portal has a comprehensive range of 10,000 products from 50 brands.

The move by Star Media Group is part of the group’s diversification of its digital offerings.

ShopStylers chief executive officer, Jimmy How, said in a statement that to provide the best shopping experience Star Shopping strives to ensure that its merchants are of the best quality.

“Our focuses are on the quality of our merchants and their product offerings. This is to ensure that our users get the best deals from credible merchants,”

The products and brands are updated weekly to bring consumers the latest trends in the market.

Star Publications head of products (digital), Serm Teck Choon, added that the positive growth of online shopping “offers our huge base of The Star Online users the ability to discover, compare and buy products online.”

TripAdvisor launches local domain website in Vietnam

Travel site, TripAdvisor, expands its reach into the Asia Pacific region with the recent launch of a local domain website in Vietnam.

Vietnamese travellers can now access traveller reviews and ratings on a localised TripAdvisor website, providing them with more relevant content to help them more effectively research and plan their travel, as well as contribute reviews and opinions of their own.

Barbara Messing, CMO TripAdvisor, said Vietnam was an important market in the Asia Pacific region. “With Vietnam becoming a popular tourist destination in its own right, a growing number of Vietnamese are travelling not only to neighbouring ASEAN countries but also internationally, and we see a great opportunity to service their travel planning needs.”

This year, TripAdvisor launched local sites in South Africa, the Philippines, New Zealand and Austria. It currently operates in 39 countries with plans to expand its footprint into new markets throughout the year.
