History buffs dress the part for boozy Dallas Heritage Village bash

The second annual History With a Twist was not your everyday field trip to Dallas Heritage Village. There were no schoolchildren bustling about; this night was all about grown-up revelers drinking and dancing while dressed in their best vintage attire.

As they walked the red carpet of the “Heritage Club,” attendees were transported back in time. A slew of Prohibition era-appropriate cocktails created by Dallas mixologists Michael Martensen and Brian McCullough — including the Heritage Gin Buck, Famous Sidecar, Plummer’s “Old Fashioned” Rum Punch, and Thompson Knight’s dry vodka martini — put everyone in just the right spirits. Nosh from Wendy Krispin Catering ensured they were sated.

As the Singapore Slingers played some jazzy tunes, guests — including Clint Wheeler, Mary Anne Thompson, Abi Clark, Charlie Poe, and Paula and Paul Day — headed to the dance floor for Charleston lessons with dance teachers from the Rhythm Room. They were fast learners too.

For those interested in luxury goods, there was a live auction. Items available to the highest bidders included weekend getaways to Santa Fe and Northrup Pipe Creek Ranch, a whale-watching trip in the San Juan Islands, and a luxury suite at American Airlines Center.

Dallas Heritage Village president and executive director Melissa Prycer expressed gratitude toward Martensen and McCullough, who embraced their cocktail challenge with gusto, as well as the donors and guests who helped raise important funds for ongoing educational programs at the museum.

The Dallas Heritage Village is a nationally accredited history museum, depicting life in Dallas from 1840-1910. All of the programs, maintenance and operations at Dallas Heritage Village are made possible by donations, contributions, memberships and ticket admissions.
