REPUBLICA

KATHMANDU, Oct 4: The number of Nepalis traveling to tourist destinations abroad during Dashain is picking up in recent years, thanks to introduction of attractive yet affordable tour packages.

Travel agencies selling outbound tour packages say the number of Nepalis holidaying abroad during Dashain is up by around 20 percent compared to the festive season of last year.

Agencies like Hamro Holidays, Incentive Travels, Arihant Holidays and Ace Travels, among others, have introduced special packages targeting Nepalis who wish to pack their bags and explore new foreign destinations during Dashain and Tihar.

Hamro Holidays has introduced special packages named Hamro Tour to various destinations such as Thailand, Malaysia, Dubai, Singapore, Europe, Sri Lanka, China and Australia, among others.

Suman Lal Shrestha, CEO of Hamro Holidays, first time travelers prefer holiday in Thailand. “Those traveling frequently, however, inquire about new destinations,” he added.

Hamro Holidays´ package starts from Rs 48,500. It has sold 200 packages so far.

Bishal Shrestha of Ace Travel´s holiday attributed the growing number of outbound tourists to the availability of reliable partner to get travel related information and introduction of special packages. “We have received overwhelming response for our outbound packages this festive season. As many as 700 Nepalis have already bought our outbound packages, which is a rise of 20 percent compared to last year,” Shrestha said.

This year, Ace Travels have introduced new destinations like Sri Lanka, the Maldives, Mauritius and Europe for Nepalis. It has already been offering trips to destinations like Thailand, Malaysia and Singapore.

Ace Travels is also offering additional facilities and giving away free domestic packages on the purchase of outbound packages depending on the destination.

Sabina Bajracharya, manager-corporate affairs and operations at Arihant Holidays, said sales of foreign trips have increased this season compared to last year. “We have sold around 65 packages so far,” she added. She further added that most of the Nepali holidaymakers are headed to Indian destinations like Goa, Mumbai and Golden Triangle which includes New Delhi, Agra and Jaipur. “This is because of depreciation of Nepali currency vis-à-vis US dollar,” she added.

Arihant is offering 10 percent discount on holiday packages in Middle East.

Not only during Dashain, travel agencies say enquiry for holiday packages during Tihar is also encouraging.
