A professor of electronics engineering who began his career in Hong Kong has become Singapore’s Business Events Ambassador in recognition of his efforts for the Lion City’s MICE sector and anchoring key global conferences there.
Professor Perry Shum, a founding member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE) Photonics Society, received the honour at the Singapore Experience Awards gala ceremony on October 21 at the Marriott hotel.
The event, into its fifth year, is part of the city’s Travel Rave week and recognises individuals and orgnsiations that have gone the extra mile in creating and delivering business, product and service excellence for toutist and business travellers in Singapore.
Three other reward recipients were honoured under the Special Recognition and Outstanding Contribution categories.
Robert Khoo, the now retired CEO of the National Association of Travel Agents Singapore, received the evening’s highest accolade, the Lifetime Achievement for Outstanding Contribution to Tourism.
Tourism Entrepreneur of the Year went to Olivier Bendel, CEO of Deliciae Hospitality Management, whose creative dining concepts at unique sites such as Sentosa Cove and Duxton Hill are credited with refreshing Singapore’s dining scene.
Gardens by the Way took the Breakthrough Contribution to Tourism award for bringing a new level of innovation to Singapore’s tourism offerings the city’s ‘unique positioning as a City in a Garden’.
Lionel Yeo, Chief Executive of the Singapore Tourism Board, says: “Behind many great experiences are great teams and individuals whose attention to detail and commitment to provide the human touch make all the difference. This year’s finalists and recipients are amongst the many whose passion and dedication have helped drive Singapore towards our goal of providing memorable experiences. Their work and dedication are truly an inspiration to the tourism sector.”
