Singapore Airlines is readying the next generation of its A380 suites and business class seats, along with an all-new design for its global network of KrisFlyer lounges – but it’s a relatively minor make-over for its female flight attendants that’s got Singapore buzzing.
The airline’s iconic ‘Singapore Girls’ are wiping off their trademark bright blue eyeshadow and toning down the rest of their make-up to achieve “a more subtle and modern look”.
It’s the first major change for SQ’s graceful flight attendants in more than a decade, reports the breathless Singaporean media.
“When we embarked on this project with our long-time grooming partner Lancome, we took into account feedback from some customers that the previous colours seemed to be on the strong side” Singapore Airlines’ head of cabin crew, Marvin Tan, told The Straits Times.
Yes, you read that correctly – French beauty mega-brand Lancome is SQ’s official ‘grooming partner’. It seems that superchefs and world-class wine experts are not enough for today’s premium airline.
The Straits Times adds that Lancome spokesman Jamie Ong says “it’s not just about shades and hues, but application and blending techniques as well, in projecting the more contemporary look.’
Not that this happens overnight: apparently the flight attendants have been taught to create the new look for themselves over the past two months, while the airline has set up a new crew lounge at Changi Airport Terminal 3 “for last-minute touch-ups before a flight.”
